Chronic overload is not an event. It is a loop — a self-sustaining cycle in which load outpaces return, the system adapts protectively, and the adaptation itself narrows the conditions under which return is possible.
The cycle
- 01Load accrues across multiple domains.
- 02Recovery Debt accumulates.
- 03The system shifts into Adaptive Conservation.
- 04Conservation constrains engagement with restorative conditions.
- 05Recovery Debt deepens. The loop reinforces.
The loop is not broken by effort. It is broken by changed conditions — and time enough for the slowest system to complete its cycle.
